Landon James has been the biggest blessing we could ever imagine. From the minute we held him for the first time, his big blue eyes and sweet snuggly personality have changed our lives forever. James said it best when the nurse handed him to us wrapped in lots of blankets after a rough delivery. "Landon is just one big bundle of grace." He is so right. During the delivery which was pretty quick considering that we had to induce, I pushed until they could see his head and everything seemed to be going perfectly. All of the sudden, I heard the doctor say something about Landon's shoulder being stuck under my pelvic bone and the nurse was on top of me pushing on my stomach as hard as she could. James was right there telling me I was doing great and encouraging me to push hard. Our doctor, Dr.Thompson from Hawthorne OBGYN, was amazing. He kept his cool through the whole thing and made me feel so comfortable. After only a few minutes but what seemed like hours, Landon arrived...but he did not make a sound. I was waiting to hear his little cry and to hold him on my chest and tell him how much I love him like most moms get to do after their baby is born. I was crushed when the nurses took him to the table and did not let me hold him. He was turning blue, still, and not breathing. I told James to go be with him and my wonderful mom and Landon's GaGa stayed by my side and told me everything would be OK. James and the nurses looked grim as they put the oxygen mask over our sweet angel's perfect little face and shook him to try to get him to breathe. Finally I heard his cry and James smiled. I knew he was going to be OK and what an amazing feeling it was when we were finally able to hold him tight. Dr. Thompson said he is perfectly fine and no damage whatsoever to me or Landon from such an intense delivery.
God certainly had His hand on us and was amazingly present through the whole experience. Thanks to everyone for your prayers for the birth of our angelic son. We know the Lord has so richly blessed us with our little boy and could not be more thankful for such an incredible gift. Right in the delivery room, Landon breastfed perfectly and has been ever since. He is growing beautifully from his big feet (we are sure he will be super tall) to his cute little strawberry blonde mohawk. He loves riding in the car, going on walks with his doggies, reading books with mom and dad, listening to GaGa sing German songs to him and snuggling her close, snuggling with anyone who wants to hold him tight, and looking around at everything with those big blue eyes that melt our hearts.
My Mom, Landon's Gaga, stayed with us the whole first week. She was the best thing that we could have ever hoped for. We could not have survived without her caring for me, Landon, and James during long nights of figuring out a good feeding schedule and trying to recover. She always made sure we had everything we needed and then some, loved on us and Landon, cooked incredible meals, accompanied us to the first pediatrician appointment and on our first adventure to Chipotle with a baby, and was just the most incredible grandma. We were so sad to see her go last Sunday but are so excited to see all of the grandparents over the long Christmas holiday in Colorado.
Thanks again to everyone for the sweet cards, gifts, thoughts, prayers, and support of our family during this amazing time. We are so thankful for all of the love you have shown and know Landon is so blessed to be surrounded by people who care about and love him so much. Below are more pics of the first week and a half of our angel's life. Hope everyone has an awesome weekend and look forward to seeing many of you soon!
